It is one of the most elegant and unique buildings of the town. The ensemble is composed of the Peredo-Barreda Palace, attached houses and the wonderful garden that surrounds them. It was built on an ancient tower or Gothic home that the Barreda family owned on their land. It was built around the 1700 by D. Francisco Miguel de Peredo, whose lineage was also the owner of the Mijares and Viveda Palaces. It is also known as the 'Benemejís Palace ", being the descendants of the Marquise of Benemejís they were the owners of the palace until its acquisition by Caja Cantabria.
The modern Cultural Center, which has led the architectural intervention in the houses adjoining Velarde and Quijano, hosts a stable programming exhibition. The rehabilitation of the Palace and property that houses the hereditary library, crafts and arts, is a new cultural space.
