This museum opened in 1994, it draws on private funds donated by the author to the town in 1993.
There is a total of half a hundred sculptures, which were sculpted during the last years of the author life, also included are the utensils, tools and drawings used in its creation.
Jesús Otero was born in Santillana in 1908 and presented his first work of art in a group exhibition in Santander. Fellow of the Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, he is well received by a large influence of sculptors such as Emiliano Barral and Victorio Macho.
A few months before his death, the author donated all his works which remained under his ownership and it was a group of friends and admirers, with the support of the Foundation that created, and set up a monographic museum in what was the old Civil Guard barracks and headquarters of the Workshop School.
The Jesús Otero Foundation also organizes temporary exhibits with the objective of presenting and getting to know new artists work.
