The Altamira Cave is a cultural icon of our times. Its discovery in 1879 by D. Marcelino Sanz de Sautuola, marked the discovery of Paleolithic rock art. The famous multicolored buffalo soon became a landmark of art history and one of the key benchmarks of European prehistory.
The significance and conservation status of its paintings and prints, belonging to the Upper Palaeolithic, allowed the registration of the Altamira Cave in the World Heritage List in 1985.
The cultural offerings of the museum include a visit to the permanent exhibition "Times of Altamira" and a three-dimensional reproduction of just how the Altamira Cave was 14,000 years ago: what we call the Neocave.
This offer is complemented by a varied program of activities tailored to the interests of various communities (school, family, tourism, etc..) based on quality and creativity.
